Conversations with the Otherworldly
When Spirituality and ET's Collide (and Make Awkward Small Talk)"
Have you ever wished you could communicate with otherworldly beings? Well, put on your tinfoil hat and get ready to dive into the strange and fascinating world of channeling!
Channeling is the practice of receiving and transmitting information from a source outside of oneself, such as a spiritual entity, a deceased loved one, or even an extraterrestrial being. It's like being a cosmic telephone operator, but instead of connecting calls between people, you're connecting with entities from other realms.
But how does channeling actually work? Is it all just a bunch of new age mumbo-jumbo, or is there something more to it?
There's something about channeling that really piques my curiosity. I've been to events where I've seen a person channel messages to a captivated audience, and I have to admit, I'm still scratching my head trying to understand how it all works. It's like watching a magic show, where you're left wondering how the magician pulled off the trick. There's a certain mystery and allure to the practice of channeling, and I can't help but be drawn in by it.
In this blog post, we'll explore the history and techniques of channeling, as well as some of the controversies and skeptics that surround it.
So, whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or just curious about the mysteries of the universe, join me as we take a deep dive into the weird and wonderful world of channeling. Who knows, you may just find yourself speaking with aliens by the end of it! (Disclaimer: speaking with aliens not guaranteed.)
The Practice of Channeling
The practice of channeling dates back thousands of years and can be found in many different cultures and religions. In the Western world, one of the most well-known examples of channeling is Edgar Cayce, also known as the "sleeping prophet." Cayce, who lived in the early 20th century, would enter into a trance-like state and provide information on a variety of topics, including health, spirituality, and the nature of reality. Many of his readings are still studied and discussed today.
Another famous example of channeling is Seth, a spiritual entity channeled through the medium Jane Roberts in the 1960s and 70s. Seth provided a wealth of information on topics such as consciousness, reincarnation, and the nature of the universe. Roberts' books on Seth's teachings became bestsellers and helped to popularize the concept of channeling in the United States.
While channeling has its share of skeptics and controversies, many people find value in the practice as a way to access spiritual guidance and gain deeper insights into themselves and the world around them. So whether you're exploring the teachings of Cayce, Roberts, or other channelers, or trying your own hand at the practice, channeling can be a fascinating and transformative experience.
Theo being Channeled…
There are several arguments against the authenticity of channeling, including:
1.   Scientific skepticism: Many skeptics argue that there is no scientific evidence to support the claims of channelers. They argue that the information channeled could be the result of cold reading, subconscious ideomotor movements, or even outright fraud.
2.   Psychological explanations: Some critics argue that channeling is a psychological phenomenon, with the information coming from the subconscious mind of the channeler rather than from an external source. They suggest that channeling could be a form of dissociative identity disorder or a coping mechanism for dealing with stress or trauma.
3.   Lack of consistency: Critics also point out that channelers often provide conflicting or vague information, which undermines their credibility. They argue that if channeling were truly authentic, the information would be consistent and verifiable.
4.   Misinterpretation of information: Even if the channeling is authentic, critics argue that the information is often misinterpreted or distorted by the channeler. They suggest that the channeler's biases and preconceptions could influence the information that is received and transmitted.
Despite these arguments, many people, including myself, still believe in the authenticity of channeling and find value in the guidance and insights they receive. Ultimately, the validity of channeling remains a matter of personal belief and interpretation.
Channeling or Prophesying?
The history of channeling in religious traditions goes back thousands of years. In many ancient cultures, shamans, seers, and other spiritual practitioners were believed to be able to communicate with the spirit world and receive messages and guidance from the divine.
In the Judeo-Christian tradition, there are several examples of individuals who could be considered as having channeled messages from God.
The Old Testament prophets, for example, were believed to have received divine revelations and communicated them to the Israelites. The prophet Isaiah, for instance, spoke of hearing the voice of the Lord and receiving visions of the future. The prophet Jeremiah also spoke of hearing God's voice and receiving messages from Him, which he then transmitted to the people.
In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul is said to have received revelations from Jesus Christ and communicated them to the early Christian communities. The book of Revelation, attributed to the Apostle John, is also believed to be a channeled work, with John receiving visions of the end of the world and writing down what he saw.
Throughout history, there have been many other religious figures who have claimed to receive messages from a divine source. These include mystics, visionaries, and spiritual leaders from various traditions, such as Rumi, Teresa of Avila, and the Buddha.
While the exact nature of these communications may be debated, the practice of channeling in religious contexts has a long and rich history that continues to this day.
I know some will be vehemently disagree with this, but there are indeed some similarities between channeling and the practice of prophesying in the Pentecostal or Charismatic church. Both involve receiving information from a source outside of oneself and transmitting it to others. However, there are also some key differences between the two practices.
In the Pentecostal tradition, prophesying typically involves receiving a message or revelation from God through the Holy Spirit. The prophet then shares this message with the congregation, often in the form of a warning, encouragement, or exhortation. Prophesying is seen as a spiritual gift that is given by God to certain individuals in the church, and it is believed to be a way for God to communicate with his people.
In channeling, on the other hand, the source of the information can vary widely, and it may not necessarily be seen as coming from a divine or spiritual source. Some channelers believe they are communicating with extraterrestrial beings, while others believe they are receiving information from the collective unconscious or other non-physical entities.
Another difference between the two practices is the degree of control that the channeler or prophet has over the information that is received. In prophesying, the message is believed to come directly from God, and the prophet has little control over the content of the message.
In channeling, on the other hand, the channeler may have more control over the information that is received and transmitted and may be able to filter or interpret the information to some extent.
Despite these differences, both channeling and prophesying share the common element of receiving and transmitting information from a source outside of oneself.
Both practices can be seen as a way of accessing spiritual guidance and wisdom, and both have the potential to be transformative and empowering experiences for those who engage in them.
The concept of tuning into a frequency to receive channeled messages is a common metaphor used by channelers to describe their process. Just as a radio receiver is able to tune into different frequencies to pick up different radio stations, a channeler is said to be able to tune into a particular frequency or vibration in order to receive messages from a non-physical source.
The idea behind this metaphor is that everything in the universe vibrates at a particular frequency, including thoughts, emotions, and spiritual entities. By learning to tune into a specific frequency, the channeler is able to connect with these higher vibrational energies and receive messages or guidance from them.
Some channelers describe this process as entering into a state of heightened awareness or altered consciousness, where they are able to access information that is not available to them in their normal waking state. This may involve meditation, visualization, or other techniques for quieting the mind and opening oneself up to receive messages.
While the metaphor of tuning into a frequency is a useful way of conceptualizing the process of channeling, it is important to note that it is not meant to be taken too literally. The exact nature of the connection between the channeler and the source of the messages is still not fully understood, and it may be more complex than a simple matter of tuning in to a specific frequency.
Nonetheless, the idea of tuning into a frequency has become a popular way of describing the process of channeling, and it highlights the importance of openness, receptivity, and attunement to higher vibrations in order to receive channeled messages.
I would like to say this is the best answer to understanding channeling, but it comes down to your own individual belief. I am inclined to accept the explanation that the channeler is tapping into a higher frequency or dimension, but that is just a hunch.
It's tough to say definitively what the best answer is when it comes to understanding channeling. Ultimately, it comes down to your own beliefs and perspectives.
Final Thoughts
Personally, I find the idea of a channeler tapping into a higher frequency or dimension to be particularly intriguing. It's as if they are able to connect with a realm beyond our everyday experience, accessing information and wisdom that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Of course, it's just a hunch, and the exact nature of the process is still something of a mystery. But there's something undeniably fascinating about the idea of tapping into unseen dimensions and communicating with entities beyond our physical realm.
