The Chakras
A look at the Kundalini experience, and the Pentecostal (or Charismatic) experience.
The Chakras: No longer a taboo subject.
A former pastor discusses the seven chakras, the Kundalini experience, and the Pentecostal (or Charismatic) experience.
Imagine reconnecting with someone you knew years ago and discovering they've undergone a complete transformation. Once a conservative pastor, who was leading evangelical congregations, you are shocked to find out, he’s now delving into taboo esoteric subjects that would make most Christians gasp. Yup, that’s me!
In this article, I’ll explore some radical shifts in my thinking. Specifically, I will discuss my current understanding of the chakra system, the Kundalini experience, and how it all compares to the Pentecostal experience in evangelical Christianity, of which I have much experience. Get ready to explore the unexpected and be inspired to question your own beliefs.
First of all, for my Christian friends that may not know much about the chakra system, I will try to explain.
The chakras are energy centers located throughout the body that are believed to play a crucial role in our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are seven main chakras, each associated with a specific color, sound, and area of the body.
The first chakra, located at the base of the spine, is the root chakra. This chakra is associated with the color red and is connected to our sense of safety, security, and survival.
The second chakra, located in the lower abdomen, is the sacral chakra. This chakra is associated with the color orange and is connected to our sexuality, creativity, and emotional well-being.
The third chakra, located in the upper abdomen, is the solar plexus chakra. This chakra is associated with the color yellow and is connected to our self-esteem, personal power, and willpower.
The fourth chakra, located in the center of the chest, is the heart chakra. This chakra is associated with the color green and is connected to our ability to give and receive love, compassion, and forgiveness.
The fifth chakra, located in the throat, is the throat chakra. This chakra is associated with the color blue and is connected to our ability to communicate, express ourselves, and speak our truth.
The sixth chakra, located in the center of the forehead, is the third eye chakra. This chakra is associated with the color indigo and is connected to our intuition, imagination, and spiritual awareness.
The seventh chakra, located at the top of the head, is the crown chakra. This chakra is associated with the color violet or white and is connected to our connection to the divine, our higher consciousness, and spiritual enlightenment.
Each chakra is believed to have its own unique qualities and functions, and when these energy centers are in balance, we experience a sense of well-being, harmony, and vitality. However, when these chakras are blocked or out of balance, we may experience physical or emotional symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, or physical illness.
There are many different practices and techniques that can help to balance and activate the chakras, including meditation, yoga, visualization, and energy healing. By working with the chakras, we can tap into the power of our own energy centers and cultivate greater awareness, health, and spiritual growth.
Balancing the Chakras
Balancing the chakras is an important part of achieving optimal health and well-being. When the chakras are balanced, energy flows freely through the body, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Here are some ways to balance the chakras:
1. Meditation: Meditation is a powerful tool for balancing the chakras. By focusing your attention on each chakra, you can help to bring it into balance. There are many different types of meditation practices that can be used to balance the chakras, including guided meditations and visualizations.
2. Yoga: Yoga is another powerful tool for balancing the chakras. Each yoga pose is associated with a specific chakra, and practicing yoga can help to stimulate and balance these energy centers. Some poses that are particularly beneficial for the chakras include downward-facing dog for the root chakra, warrior II for the solar plexus chakra, and camel pose for the heart chakra.
3. Sound healing: Sound healing is a practice that uses sound vibrations to balance the chakras. Each chakra is associated with a specific sound frequency, and by listening to these frequencies, you can help to stimulate and balance the chakras. You can find many sound healing recordings online, or you can work with a sound healer to create a personalized sound healing session.
4. Energy healing: Energy healing practices, such as Reiki, can help to balance the chakras. During an energy healing session, the practitioner uses their hands to help move energy through the body, stimulating and balancing the chakras. This can help to clear blockages and promote overall health and well-being.
5. Visualization: Visualization is a powerful tool for balancing the chakras. By visualizing each chakra as a spinning wheel of energy, you can help to stimulate and balance these energy centers. You can also visualize the color associated with each chakra, which can help to promote healing and balance.
By working with the chakras, you can tap into the power of your own energy centers and cultivate greater awareness, health, and spiritual growth.
The chakras and the Kundalini experience are closely connected. Kundalini refers to the dormant energy that lies at the base of the spine and is often described as a coiled serpent.
When this energy is awakened, it rises up through the chakras, activating and balancing each one in turn.
The Kundalini Experience
The Kundalini experience can be both powerful and transformative, as it can bring up deep-seated emotions and past traumas that have been stored in the chakras.
It is important to approach the Kundalini experience with caution and under the guidance of an experienced teacher or practitioner, as it can be overwhelming if not properly managed.
Each of the chakras is associated with specific qualities and characteristics, and when the Kundalini energy rises through each chakra, these qualities are amplified and experienced more deeply.
For example, when the Kundalini energy rises to the heart chakra, the individual may experience a deep sense of compassion and love for others. When the Kundalini energy rises to the crown chakra, the individual may experience a profound sense of connection to the divine.
It is important to note that the Kundalini experience is not necessary for balancing the chakras or achieving spiritual growth. Many people are able to balance their chakras and cultivate spiritual awareness through meditation, yoga, and other practices without experiencing the Kundalini awakening.
However, for those who do experience the Kundalini awakening, it can be a powerful and transformative experience that opens up new levels of awareness and understanding.
Yes, I have found there are some similarities between the Kundalini experience of traveling up the chakras and the Christian emotional Pentecostal experience of "being baptized in the Spirit."
In both cases, individuals may experience intense emotional and physical sensations, such as feelings of warmth, vibrations, and even involuntary movements. Both experiences can be described as transformative and can result in a deep sense of spiritual connection and awareness.
Ecstatic Experience in the Church
However, it is important to note that there are also some key differences between these experiences. While the Kundalini experience is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions, the Pentecostal experience is based on Christian beliefs and practices.
Additionally, the Pentecostal experience is often associated with speaking in tongues, which is not a feature of the Kundalini experience.
Furthermore, the interpretation and understanding of these experiences can vary greatly depending on the individual's cultural, religious, and personal background.
While some may interpret the Kundalini experience as a mystical or spiritual awakening, others may see it as a psychological phenomenon. Similarly, the Pentecostal experience can be interpreted in a variety of ways depending on one's religious beliefs and experiences.
While there are some similarities between the Kundalini experience and the Pentecostal experience of "being baptized in the Spirit," it is important to recognize and respect the differences between these spiritual traditions and practices.

Kundalini as the Dual Activated Body
It is not uncommon for individuals to undergo significant changes in their beliefs and interests over the course of their lives. In my case, the shift from being a conservative pastor to exploring esoteric subjects such as the chakra system and the Kundalini experience may be surprising to some who knew me in the past.
However, it is important to recognize that personal growth and spiritual exploration are ongoing processes, and it is not uncommon for individuals to question and re-evaluate their beliefs over time.
As I explore the chakra system and the Kundalini experience, it is natural to consider how these concepts may relate to my previous experiences and understanding of evangelical Christianity.
While there are similarities between the Pentecostal experience and the Kundalini experience, it is important to approach these comparisons with an open mind and a willingness to consider alternative perspectives.
By exploring these topics with curiosity and an open heart, we may gain new insights and deepen our understanding of both ourselves and the world around us.
